I Know many Nigerian youths do not know who Humphrey Nwosu is, and that's why the Government scrap History lessons out of secondary and Primary Schools.
Prof. Humphrey Nwosu should have be celebrated more than anyone else on June 12. He deserves more accolades and should have received a national honour if not that he is a Biafran. He was the Electoral Commission Chairman that boldly and bravely Announced the election results despite all the death threats by Nigeria Army of Ibrahim Babangida. He stood his ground even at a gunpoint and went ahead to announce the election results.
They didn't celebrate him because he is IGBO Biafran, but they honour the likes of Prof Mahmood Yakubu, Prof Jega that know how to Rig elections.
Here is some History of Humphrey Nwosu:
Humphrey Nwosu (born 2 October 1941) was chairman of the National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (NECON) appointed by President Ibrahim Babangida, holding office from 1989 to 1993, he became a Professor of Political Science at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He served in the cabinet of Samson Omeruah, governor of the old Anambra State, where he helped traditional rulers to gain staff of office and receive salaries. Also he settled intra and inter-community land disputes. He also served as the chairman of a Federal Technical Committee on the application of Civil Service Reforms in the local government service.
He was appointed FEDECO chairman in 1989 after his predecessor (and former mentor) Eme Awa resigned due to a disagreement with Ibrahim Babangida.
Prof. Nwosu conducted the June 12, 1993, election, which was seen as the freest and fairest election to have been conducted in Nigeria till date, in which Chief Moshood Abiola was presumed to have won. Nwosu's commissioned and introduced the novel Option A4 voting system and the Open ballot system.
Nwosu had released many of the election results when he was ordered to stop further announcement by the military regime.
